Freeze your credit card, literally
My story behind the advice is:
My father only gave me 2 bits of advice my entire life and one was about finance. He said, one day you will have your own credit card and you will spend more money on it then you have in your bank account. He said never do that, well you will do it, once, but then never do it again. And he was right! I was so upset that I did it the first month I had the card. I knew you could freeze it but was worried if I needed it for an emergency I would be in trouble. So I put it in a bowl of water and literally froze it until my cash flow was better. And never did it again.
