Dear Money Doctor®, my Financial Advice is:

It’s what you save, not make

My story behind the advice is:

My parents talked about memories of the depression and the need to save for a rainy day.  I hope that I won’t ever have to go through a depression.  Yes, I had a piggy bank and coin collection growing up where I collected pennies, nickels and dimes from every year that I could find.  I’ve learned that a lot of very successful people spend every dime “keeping up with the Jones” and are not in good financial shape for retirement.  I’ve seen that many average Americans have built a nice nest egg by saving a little bit out of every pay check.
